Privacy Policy

Vocabulary Daybreak ("the app") is made by Luke Lau ("we", "us"). This policy explains what information the app uses, why, who it's shared with, and the choices you have.
Who is responsible for your data
Luke Lau is responsible for the personal information described here (the "data controller"). You can reach us at support@independencesupplyco.com.
What the app keeps on your iPhone
- Your learning activity: words you've seen, favorited, saved to collections, marked as known or hidden, and practice results.
- Your settings: level, topics, daily goal, reminders, theme, voice and similar choices.
- Optional answers from setup: your name (or nickname), age group, gender, how you heard about the app, what helps you learn, and where your vocabulary feels weakest. Each of these can be skipped.
This information stays on your iPhone unless you create an account. Apart from your name, the setup answers (age group, gender, how you heard about the app, what helps you learn and your weakest area) never leave your iPhone, even if you have an account, so we never see them. Pronunciation uses voices built into your iPhone; nothing is sent anywhere to play them.
If you create an account (optional)
- Your email address, to sign you in and send you sign-in links (or the identifier Apple or Google provides, if you use those sign-in options).
- A copy of your learning activity and settings, including the name you chose and your reminder times, so they're backed up and synced across your devices.
- Technical information recorded when the app connects to our servers, such as your IP address and the time, to keep the service secure and working.
Purchases
Subscriptions are handled by Apple. We never see your payment details; the app only learns whether your subscription is active.
Why we use your information
- To provide the app and the features you choose, such as syncing your progress when you sign in. This is necessary to provide the service you asked for.
- To keep the service secure and fix problems, which is in our legitimate interest and yours.
- To reply when you contact us.
We don't use your information for advertising, and we don't make automated decisions about you that have legal or similarly significant effects.
Who we share it with
Only with services that help run the app, which may use it only to provide their service to us and must keep it secure:
- Supabase stores account data and handles sign-in.
- Resend delivers sign-in emails.
- Apple handles purchases and subscriptions.
- Cloudflare hosts the support website.
- Google Workspace hosts our support email inbox.
We don't sell personal information or share it for advertising. The app contains no third-party analytics or advertising code. We may disclose information if the law requires it.
International transfers
These providers may process data in countries other than yours, such as the United States. Where the law requires it, they use safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.
Cookies and tracking
The app doesn't use cookies, advertising identifiers or trackers, and it doesn't track you across other companies' apps or websites. The support website doesn't set cookies or use analytics; our hosting provider may keep standard server logs, such as IP addresses, for security.
How long we keep it
- Data on your iPhone stays until you remove it or delete the app.
- Account data stays until you delete your account. It's then removed from our database straight away; copies in our providers' backups and logs are deleted on their regular schedules.
- Emails you send us are kept only as long as needed to help you.
Your rights and choices
- Delete your account at any time in Profile › Account › Delete account. This permanently removes your account and all data stored online. You can also email us to ask.
- See, correct or get a copy of your data, or object to how it's used, by emailing us. We'll reply within one month.
- Turn off notifications in the app or in iPhone Settings.
- Skip any optional question in setup.
Depending on where you live (for example in the EU, the UK or California), you may have further rights, including the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
Security
Data is sent over encrypted connections (HTTPS), your sign-in is stored in the iPhone's Keychain, and each account can only read its own data. No system is perfectly secure, but we work hard to protect your information.
Children
The app isn't intended for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, email us and we'll delete it. If you're under 16, please ask a parent or guardian before creating an account.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update the date above and, for significant changes, tell you in the app.
